YouTube Rewind 2018 dubbed the ‘worst ever’
YouTube Rewind is a video series produced and created by YouTube and Portal A Interactive. These videos are a recap of each year’s viral videos, events, trends, and music. Every year, the number of YouTube celebrities featured in the video, as well as the presentation of the series, has increased. The latest episode of YouTube Rewind, released on December 6 2018, became the second most disliked video of all time on YouTube, behind Justin Bieber’s “Baby”.
YouTube’s yearly rewind video has received more downvotes than upvotes. With nearly 4 million people hitting the dislike button on the ‘YouTube Rewind 2018: Everyone Controls Rewind’ video, it has created a buzz online for all the wrong reasons. With #YouTubeRewind, the video-sharing platform received severe backlash on Twitter for ignoring the most important moments and stars. With PewDiePie, the most subscribed channel, Shane Dawson and even BTS excluded from the year-ender, fans are calling it the “worst ever”.
Here are some fan reactions from Twitter:
I watched the #YouTubeRewind last night and I thought the campfire scene was a little disingenuous. “Hey we’re all millionaires and we’re talking about the underprivileged people and how far they’ve come”— Steak from Jake’s Farm (@starmakeralta) December 7, 2018
